It’s 2019! Can you believe it? Don’t you hate when people say that? It’s kind of repetitive because most people say it every year.
“I can’t believe it’s a new year.”
We make big goals. We have big plans. We go to crowded gym classes and buy piles of decluttering and parenting books (lol can you tell what I’m focused on?).
We vow to spend less time on our emails and more time interacting IRL. Everyone goes in with the same mindset:
This is going to be THE YEAR.
That enthusiasm and positive energy only tend to last for a few weeks before falling back into even older habits and then the cycle starts up again around December 29th. Did you know that 80% of people give up their resolutions by February?
It’s one of the reasons the word of the year is so popular- because it can ebb and flow. If you don’t live it to the hilt every day of the year it’s gonna be ok. Because it’s fluid it’s much more forgiving than having an actual desired outcome (lose 10 pounds! write a book! make $100k!).*
But still, #goals! We all have them.
So while I don’t have the key to making all of the positive changes you want to make stick, I can tell you exactly what you can do to make sure that 2019 is the year you finally build a business that you love AND that supports you financially in a sustainable way.
I know you’ve probably tried a lot of things before so what makes this year different? I’ll give you a few pieces of advice to make sure it actually is DIFFERENT.
It’s called the 8 Ps of of the Joy Imperative
I’m going to outline them here and then will go into each one in more depth over the coming weeks.
-profit (what’s left over after you pay team, yourself, taxes, operating costs)
- products/services that maximize your joy
- promotion and marketing vehicles that you feel joyful about using, creating and maintaining
- prioritization that serve your joy, your clients' joy, your family’s joy- in order to have them you must have a rubric to identify strategic priorities and then actively pursue them
- pruning out the elements in your life and business that drain joy
- practical luxury - things that may seem extravagant but actually give you tons of joy/time
- permission - saying it’s ok to do things differently
- paradigm shift - start to look at everything through this lens of joy and money
Ultimately, making this year YOUR year to love your business and ensure its profitability is about doing things in a way you never have before. You have to remember that you don’t succeed in making your goals a reality by doing things the same way you’ve always done them. Something MUST change. It’s not enough to have the declaration. If it was, you would have figured this out YEARS ago. If you really want to enjoy your life more and make more money at the same time, it’s time to make some changes.
While I can’t personally ensure that you experience this radical shift, I’ve realized that when it comes to joyful money, you have to start with where you are- that’s right: awareness! This quiz will help you understand where how you stack up when it comes to JOY and MONEY. You can take it here.
I know how hard it is to actually do things differently from everyone else and prioritize JOY before you prioritize money- it’s scary and the ego usually has a LOT to say about it.
But I’ve seen it have massively positive impact on both ROE (return on emotion) and ROI (return on investment) in a variety of businesses- big AND small.
I’d love to invite you to experience the Joy|Money Matrix™ for yourself this year.
It’s a year long commitment to JOY and MONEY and staying focused on creating a life and business that you love (and that supports you fully). If you are really passionate about making this year the year you go in 2020 knowing that you’re more fulfilled and profitable than ever before, let’s do this!
*For the record my word of the year is Fabulous! It came to me during meditation and at first I was skeptical because it conjured images of Tim Gunn on Project Runway and while he is, in fact, fabulous I wasn’t sure the word was my jam. til I looked it up. Here’s what I got: of myth or legend, wonderful, marvelous. I especially like the mythical/legendary part because that’s exactly the energy I want for 2019. So, FABULOUS.
